Guy J - Heliscope EP (Bedrock)
Guy J kicks this track off with swirling pads and direct drum patterns. A killer bass line fires as stabbing chords cut in and a layer of elemental melody paints a sonic sound field. Mind blowing.
Neil Quigley - The Mean Reds EP (Stripped)
A healthy remix pack with loads of top names to chose from. For me, it's Ian O'Donovan's (Ireland's answer to John Digweed) remix. A big, meaty bass drum powers the melodic loop, which also boasts a light tribal percussion. The best bit by far however is the 'whomp' sound O'Donovan brings in as he adds another layer... bliss.
Bastards Of Funk & Sonic Union - Where As EP (Elektric Soul)
The Deepgrooves remix on this release is a dark and unsettling one. A throbbing bass groove storms as beats drop out to add tension. Just as the pressure builds up to a peak, a vocal rides over and synths fire this into the underground category. Dark.
Kita & The Hat - Abreme's Dream EP (Endemic Digital)
Atmospheric progressive house intensified by a beautiful chord pattern midway, which results in the effect of leaving you feeling warm and fuzzy and loved up. Although the original mix steals it for me, Ed Lee and Wez Saunders remixes are worth checking too.
Psycatron & Paul Woolford - Thunder EP (Cocoon)
Back from working with Carl Craig's Planet E studio, this duo have been snapped up by Sven Vath's Cocoon label. Cloud 9 is the stealer here, jumbled chords and rising tech sounds give way to a deep powerful kick. The melodies pick up and build a hypnotic score that just gets better and better as it progresses.
