The Electric Frog September Weekender

Electric Frog is now in to it's third year, now established as Scotland's biggest inner city festival for electronic music fans. In fact, it's so big that the organizers have bumped the Frog up to it's fourth installment this year and the collaboration with SOMA Records (20 Years of Soma - 2011)  has proven an excellent partnership.

For more information please goto Electric Frog web page.

The Guide have teamed up with Electric Frog to offer you the chance to win two tickets to the festival (Tickets only). All you have to do to win is answer the question below and send your message to The Guide Clubland Facebook Page :

PICK OF THE CLUB NIGHTS
MUSIKA
SASHA & GUY GERBER
Liquid Room, Victoria St,
10.30pm - 5pm, £20, 0131-225-2564

EVERY year, the Fringe kicks off in a buzz of excitement as the city transforms into haven for 24 hour party people.

As you would expect there is something special to mark the occasion - superstar DJs Sasha and Guy Gerber will headline Musika at the Liquid Room on Saturday night.

With Smirnoff sponsoring and a newly refurbished garden area complete with bar it's the ideal venue to party.

Sasha is world famous, having brought acid house to the UK back in the 80's. More recently he has been championing new technologies to mix music (purists cover your ears… laptops).

He's clearly at the forefront and, for many who believe they're listening to a rare remix or unheard of track, it's not so. Sasha re-edits everything he plays before the gig. Playing live on decks routing everything through a plethora of effects boxes, sculpting the sound that's unmistakably 'Sasha'.

Interested yet? With a marathon three hour set billed for Saturday's event including support from Guy Gerber's Live show, you should be.

Gerber is the enigmatic Israeli born DJ whose Stoppage Time on Bedrock Records was an anthem which pulled in five figure sales - a virtually impossible task in an age when reality TV pop stars rule the chart.

What does he sound like? It’s probably easier to clarify him with three Es… euphoric, emotive and energy-driven.

My ticket's bought... is yours? It should be.

Words: Grant Paterson

Kyle Geiger - Imperial
Peak time deepness from Cubera label boss Kyle Geiger packing in head slicing synthage and a mighty bass groove. Played this out and everyone was diggin' it big time. Regal!

Vince Watson - Pressure Part2
Steve Rachmads remix is right on the money, a real treat for techno purists, the proper sound of Detroit... Thumping drum patterns and beautifully warm analogue sounds, cannae whack it. Tour de Force.

PICK OF THE CLUB NIGHTS
GRAVITY
The Store, Guthrie Street,
Saturday, 11pm-3am, £8/£6(NUS),
0131-220-2987

A scientist will tell you Gravity is a natural occurrence, rhyming off a lengthy explanation to bore you to tears. However in club land terms when something heavy is dropped it carries quite different connotations.

A killer tune blasts through the speakers, resonating, you feel the pressure build. What brainiac's call 'cause and effect' results in a dance floor phenomenon, hands thrust in the air, cheering and feet pounding the floor.

Club promoter Desiree Dawson favours the science of clubbing, aptly entitling her techno night Gravity.

Dawson enthuses, "Last month Dave Angel's stellar performance had everyone going crazy, the shouts for one more tune was deafening. Saturdays gig's going to be equally massive, as this time we've got Chris Colburn headlining".

Colburn's relentless techno takes the listener on a deep hypnotic journey packed with punchy beats and grinding grooves. He was recently signed to Alan Fitzpatrick's 8 sided dice label, best known for cutting edge techno music.

So head to The Store this Saturday and witness Colburn smash Isaac Newton's laws of gravity, "What goes up must come down" or at least having a great time trying!

PICK OF THE CLUBS: Madame Belles @ Lulu

EDINBURGH’S George street is the perfect setting for a salubrious night out.
However, with a huge choice of bars, restaurants and clubs, it can be difficult to find somewhere special.
Not any more... just head for Madame Belle’s, every Thursday at Lulu.
Trendy, smart, with wall to wall glamour, the venue’s custom-made decor adds visual depth to the masquerade ball vibe that the night promotes.
Feel free to dress up in corsets and masks if you are feeling fruity to get into the swing of things - women, too.
Perfect for the forward- thinking revellers, Madame Belle’s tends to attract a good mix of smart students, young professionals and, of course, those who are up for a midweek party at midweek prices.
Just ask this week’s featured Edinburgh clubbers (above).
Madeleine Barratt (21), Stephanie Barratt (21) and Daena Lorne (20) were out celebrating a birthday. Lorne says, “We love the party atmosphere here, it’s a luxurious and comfortable club, a perfect place to have a good time”.
Like the club’s regulars, the girls had a great time, dancing with friends long into the night courtesy of resident DJ Jez Hill.
Hill is occasionally joined by various guests  and mixes up a massive party playlist featuring the best in hip-hop, funky house, bouncy electro and big room anthems.
There’s something for everyone, and if you are feeling flush, look into the VIP area with table service offering the best bubbly to add sparkle to your evening. Madame Belle’s has it all...  just bring your own mask.

GRANT PATERSON'S FLOOR FILLERS:

GP - FLOORFILLERS MIX - 09_06_11 by The Guide Clubland

Hysteric Ego - Want Love (2011) (Dean Newton 2011 Remix)
EDINBURGH’S very own Dean Newton takes the ‘96 classic and adds his own twist, a deep bassline and tribal percussion.
There’s no way you can ignore this infectious chart bursting cut, which is sure to be equally massive second time round.

Francesco Pico & Eelke Kleijn - Supersize Us
THIS smooth, melodic progressive builder sails into spine tingling waters, grooving into a hands in the air anthem. Smiles on faces. Job done boys. Supersised.

Jose Vizcaino - People Around (Original Mix)
HYPE are striving to the top making deep progressive grooves which can be played out in airy festival spaces or  dark atmospheric clubs. Expect all the top jocks to have this in their box. Hypnotic dubs.

Laera feat. Fuiano - The World (Original Mix)
ON the summer house tip, Fuianos laidback lyrics epitomise all that’s good in Jim Morrison’s tones. A sax drifts over a  deep bass groove. Brilliant. A beachside burner.

Kris Wadsworth - Lime and Pink (Burnski Remix)
FINEST quality deep house. This is impossible to ignore. Somehow it makes you reminisce about all those fantastic summers. Good times.
