Night of the week: Pulse Birthday Party featuring Green Velvet @ Cabaret Voltaire
Dress code: Clubby and trendy
Music: Techno and house
DJs: Darrell Harding, Andy Problems, Ritchie Bryson and special guest Green Velvet
I just love birthday parties, particularly when the celebrations include a very special guest like the mighty Green Velvet, who returns to Edinburgh for the first time since March 2007.
Green Velvet is a true clubland legend. He single handily brought house music back to Chicago when everyone was looking to Detroit, and his unmistakeable style has us singing along with classics such as Percolator, The Flash, and of course the classic La, La, Land.
Pulse boss Darrell Harding, explaining why they booked Green Velvet, said, “Green Velvet is one of our favourite artists of all time. All his original productions are still being used by top DJs to this day as well as his new releases. He has been regarded as one of the biggest artists to date, for this we couldn't think of anyone better with whom to celebrate our birthday.”
Green Velvet's sets are always energy driven and tomorrow will be no exception when he plays a mixture of classics and new productions.
Harding and Andy Hay meanwhile, have been busy over the last year keeping their mission to bring the best in electronic music to their home town alive. Looking back over the last year, Hay ponders, “Laurent Garnier was pretty special, a full live show from a techno legend, and when we had Agoria in March, it was a great night which started off his Balance Tour.”
If you want to hear one of the Titans of Techno play the music that made him a legend, get down to the Cab Vol for the Pulse birthday celebrations,. If you don't, you may very well be green with envy of those who do.

UPDATE: I had never seen the Cab Vol as busy as it was on Saturday night. Green Velvet played an incredible 3hr set to the delight of the capacity crowd. After the lights went up Curtis, (Green Velvet) smiled wide to the shouts of "One more tune" and proceeded to sing La, La, Land live and the place erupted. One of the best nights this year.
