THIS Saturday sees Edinburgh club night Rendezvous celebrate its first birthday, and what better way to mark the occasion than with the album launch of The Drawing Board, the latest release from house maestros Art Department. 


Art Department is the brainchild of Canadian techno/house legend Kenny Glasgow and Canada’s fastest rising star (and owner of house label No.19) Jonny White. 
Together they are regarded internationally as two of the most forward thinking, relevant underground producers around today. 


The album, which will go on general release on 25 April, has been long anticipate and previews have been creating a similar stir to the seminal Daft Punk album Homework. Expect something a bit special at Rendezvous as these guys are creating the new sound of electronica, and their appearance on Saturday night will be nothing short of ground breaking. 


Rendezvous resident and promoter Ryan Harrower says, “I really like their sound at the moment. I’ve heard a few tracks from the forthcoming album and they’re excellent. “The Rendezvous Team are very excited to celebrate our First Birthday with Art Department.”

TOMORROW night sees the return of the bi-monthly house and techno night Rendezvous to The Lane. A perfect club setting for underground electronica, with three cracking spaces to dance like no one’s watching, The Lane is the ideal location for any up for it crowd. 


As clubbers will discover tomorrow, the Harrower boys haven’t slacked off in their mission to bring the best in international and home-grown talent to Edinburgh. Spread over three rooms, Lee Foss and Blair Harrower headline the main room. Ryan is joined by Ross Scott in the White Room, while in the bar you can get down to some funky house, courtesy of Gary Carvel and Slim White Trash.

Superstar DJ Foss, originally from Chicago, has had a rapid rise since catapulting onto the scene in 2009. Foss has been at the forefront of the vibrant LA house and techno scene for some time now, with a residency at Culprit’s rooftop parties in Hollywood, USA. He has received acclaim from the likes of Laurent Garnier and Dave Clarke for his own releases and creative DJ sets. Expect to hear him play the crème del la crème of house and techno, featuring tunes from labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Culprit, Wolf + Lamb, and his own Hot Creations imprint.

LAUNCHED in March, Rendezvous showcases the best in local talent and features guest DJs making moves in the underground house scene.
The concept behind the night is to bring the same party atmosphere experienced in Barcelona, Berlin and Ibiza to Edinburgh. With the emphasis being the musical experience rather than simply strutting your stuff in a club.

Situated in the west end, 'The Lane' (formerly Berlin) runs parallel to Princess Street and not far from Lothian Road. You can't miss the dazzling flood lights illuminating the alley way or the crowd forming outside. Head through the main doors and down a steep flight of steps. Rendezvous is spread over three rooms, each providing a varied spectrum of house music, catering for most preferences.

To your left, a stylish bar featuring house and disco courtesy of DJs Gary Carvel and Laurence Nolan. To the right you'll find the main room with the Harrower boys playing a house and techno set. On this occasion they are joined by headlining DJ Matt Tolfrey fresh from Sven Vath's Berlin Label: Cocoon.

If you fancy something funkier then go through to the 'white room' (just beyond the main room) where you can find Heavy Gossip's Nick Yuill playing out a soulful selection of deep house and disco. The white rom features some cool seating and a much more intimate space to chill out.

A club night with a good atmosphere and up for it crowd, this is a 'rendezvous' worth making.
